Happy Deepavali

Deepavali

Not surprisingly, there are lots of holidays when you live in a multi-racial country. The latest holiday that we have celebrated in Malaysia is Deepavali. Deepavali is a Hindu holiday celebrated by the Indian community. Deepavali is known as "the fetival of lights". For more info about this holiday see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diwali

There are lots of interesting traditions associated with the celebration of Deepavali in Malaysia- see http://www.expat.com.my/Deepavali%20in%20Malaysia.htm

One tradition associated with Deepavali is making "paintings" on the ground using colored rice. These paintings can be quited elaborate.

From Suria Mall in KLCC

From Amcorp Mall. I watched them make this painting. Because it is located near the mall entrance and it was an especially windy day, they had a little difficulty getting the rice to stay in place.

Simple painting from supermarket in mall basement.

Indian Music and Dance

I saw a performance of Indian music and dance at one of the local malls. Very colorful and quite interesting!
