Nanga Sumpa Longhouse

The Nanga Sumpa longhouse was located across the river from the Borneo Adventure Lodge. It was easy to get from one side to the other by walking across the bridge. Nanga Sumpa gets a lot more visitors than Menyang Tais so there was quite a different feel when visiting the longhouse.

Nanga Sumpa longhouse contained about 30 interconnected dwellings so it was much larger than Manyang Tais.

Big sis wasn't too interested in having her photo taken.

This woman was weaving a mat in her living room. She said that it would take her about three days to complete this mat.

Looking down the porch.

After I took this photo I tried to get the kids to show the Texas Tech "guns up" hand sign. Unfortunately, the little boy in green had no idea what I was talking about so instead he presented both of his middle fingers. I am not sure I should post that photo.

This longhouse also had houses for families to live nearby.

Because the Sarawak state elections took place the week before, Prime Minister Najib's face was everywhere. Although the Barisan National (the current ruling coalition) remained popular in the rural areas, the opposition party made inroads in the cities.

Laundry day.
