Sepak Tekraw

Because Tech underachieved this year and the Cowboys are an absolute disaster, football season back home has been a pretty big disappointment for me. Luckily, I have discovered a new game- sepak tekraw.

Sepak tekraw is a combination of volleyball and soccer played on a badminton court. The game is like volleyball except that players can only touch the ball with their feet and heads. It is amazing to watch the players bump, set, spike, and block. The net is almost 6 feet high, but they can still "spike" the ball straight down.

The traditional sepak tekraw ball is made of rattan.

To learn more about this game check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sepak_takraw.

The first historical record of sepak tekraw comes from Malaysia so the Malaysians consider it to be their sport. Malaysia recently played Thailand in the gold medal match at the Asian Games in China. You can take a look and see the two best teams in the world in action. Malaysia is in red and Thailand is in yellow. I don't want to ruin it for you, but Thailand eventually won the gold.
