Kuala Tahan

Kuala Tahan is a small town across the river from Taman Negara. Mosts of the hotels and hostels for visitors to the park are located there. There is a floating mini-market and a number of floating restaurants along the river that serve cheap and tasty Malay and Western food (burgers, chicken, fish and chips). There is no bridge between the town and national park so all crossings are done by water taxi (1 ringgit per trip).

You can see one of the river taxis carrying people across the river.

Floating Restaurants

Washing dishes in the river. It is good to be upstream.

Mini market. You can see the boards that formed the walkways that allowed you to enter from the river bank.

LBK Floating Restaurant. Because food was so much cheaper along the river than in the restaurant in the hotel where I was staying, I ate all of my lunches and dinners floating along the river. The food was good (I usually had some kind of noodles), it was nice to look across the river at the rainforest and watch the world float past, and usually there was a nice cooling breeze.

View across the river from "the LBK" (this view is quite different from any view in "the LBK" in Texas)

People Shots

A few local kids in the window.

What a cutie!
