Field Trip to FRIM: The Canopy Walk

A lot of the action in a rainforest happens well above the ground in the forest canopy. In order to learn what is going on up there scientists have developed a number of techniques for working in the canopy. At FRIM they have built an extensive "canopy walk" that allows people to "hike" through the rainforest at, or above the canopy level. This was my first time to walk through a rainforest canopy.

The canopy walk was a very popular activity so there was a long line of tourists waiting for their turn.

The hike up to the canopy walk was uphill, so everyone was tired and sweaty by the time we got there.

Students enjoying their walk through the canopy.

The Moms were all great sports and endured the heights, hills, sweat, and leaches with great enthusiasm!

It was a little disconcerting when it appeared that parts of the walkway were held together by frayed shoe strings!

But the view from up high was well worth the effort

City skyline view. I live just behind the hill on the right.
